SRINAGAR, Nov 5: Fifteen shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at Iqbal market in Srinagar's Batamaloo area last night.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a short-circuit, a police official said, ruling out any attempts of sabotage.
He, however, said that the police have taken samples from the spot and sent them for forensic examination.
Reports said that a fire broke last night at Batamaloo market and within no time turned 25 shops into ashes. “Among the shops were provisional, readymade garment, hosiery, and general store shops etc,” a shopkeeper told media.
Ghulam Muhammad, a shopkeeper said that the mysterious blaze has caused the damage to them to the tune of Rs 5 crores. “We are not sure about the cause of fire. There are very less chances of fire being caused due to the short circuit as we ensure that all power trips are down before closing our shops,” he said.
In yet another incident at Habba Kadal, a mysterious fire incident left Arsh Never Ends shop, belonging to one Mushtaq Ahnmed son of Master Ghulam Ahmed, completely damaged. “My son who was preparing for his exams saw the fire as he was awake because of his examination preparations.
